The Huawei Watch GT 2e offers a whole lot of watch for your money. It’s still a predominantly fitness-focused device though. This is more of a sports watch than a smartwatch. Those sports features on the whole work well, and you do still have that great battery life that beats the likes of what Apple, Samsung and Wear OS watches can offer. Pros Comfortable to wear Plenty of sports features Solid battery life Cons Smartwatch basics Some features not compatible on iPhone Key Specifications Review Price £ 46mm case Huawei Lite OS 454 x 454 resolution AMOLED screen 14 day battery life 5ATM water resistant Built-in GPS Heart rate monitor 4GB storage The Huawei Watch GT 2e is a new edition of the Watch GT 2 smartwatch that landed in 2019. While retaining a lot of the same features as the GT 2, Huawei is making this new version more suitable for exercise. Along with some changes in the design department, it’s also bringing a few new extras to ramp up its sports tracking prowess. All at a lower price. Design and screen – The Huawei Watch GT 2e is a well made, attractive smartwatch Unlike the GT 2, the 2e only comes in the one size. It’s the same 46mm sized case as featured on the largest GT 2. That’s also available in black stainless steel or stainless steel case options. There’s the same numbered bezel ring surrounding the touchscreen display, and it now weighs 43g compared to 41g. So not the kind of difference you really notice when you compare wearing the two. Where Huawei has made changes is in the band and the physical buttons. The strap is now a similar kind of perforated kind that you can find on some Apple Watch straps. That strap is now more integrated into the design to create a more fluid look. If you want to switch out the bands for another colour, there’s a pin mechanism to make that a very easy thing to do. Huawei is offering straps in four colours in total with your pick of black, red, green and white bands. We had the red option to try, which is a typical go-to colour for sporty watches. Though we imagine the green and white options might offer something a little louder and eye-catching. Related Apple Watch 5 The other big change is the new flatter buttons, which sit closer to the casing. That’s a big departure from the more traditional-style look on the GT 2’s buttons. It helps to create a more streamlined look. More importantly, the increase in surface area means they are easier to press, which is handy when things start getting sweaty. Around the back is where you’ll find the heart rate sensor and the SpO2 sensor, which has now also been turned on the GT2 and offers the same insights, which we’ll get into later. It’s perhaps no real surprise to find that the GT 2e also receives the same waterproof 5ATM waterproof rating, making it suitable for pool and open water swimming and a post-workout shower. In terms of the display, you’re getting the same 454 x 454 resolution AMOLED screen as the GT 2. You’re still getting something here that’s bright, offers accurate colours and strong viewing angles. It’s a great screen to absorb workout metrics in real-time and show off those watch faces too. Bottom line, it’s still a really nice smartwatch to wear. It’s slim, not too heavy or bulky. The new strap invariably gives it a more sporty look, but retaining the same watch case it holds in place means it still offers a well made, attractive design for the price you’re paying. Battery, performance and features – Some nice improvements, but still a mixed bag Improving battery life on its smartwatches was a big factor for Huawei. When it moved to its own Lite OS operating system from Google’s Wear OS, it was finally able to deliver that. Like the GT 2, the 2e promises up to 14 days in typical use from a 455mAh capacity battery. That usually means not using power-intensive features like all-day heart rate monitoring, putting GPS to regular use and keeping that screen cranked up to full brightness. Thankfully, it’s still a solid performer as far as giving you weeks as opposed to the day you used to get on Huawei’s smartwatches pre-Lite OS. GPS tracking doesn’t drain the battery in any really undesirable way with a 30-minute outdoor knocking just 5-6% off the battery. If you are willing to disable features, you might not make full use of, like continuous heart rate monitoring, stress tracking or which app notifications you receive on the watch, that two weeks is definitely achievable. Performance-wise, we don’t have any complaints about how Lite OS runs. It’s still powered by Huawei’s Kirin A1 chip with a bump in RAM from 2GB to 4GB. The GT 2 wasn’t particularly laggy or sluggish in any way, and things perfectly smoothly here too. A lot of settings are offloaded to Huawei’s Health companion app, making it largely a really easy watch to navigate. There’s no app support, so you’re stuck with what Huawei has to offer in features much like before. Things run nice and smooth, and you’re always one swipe away from those core features. Speaking of those core features, it’s the same as what we got on the GT2, and that means it’s pretty baseline. You can view notifications iOS and Android, though they are not actionable, which may well be enough for people. There’s 4GB of external storage, though that works out to about 2GB for you to pile on some of your own music. So you can pair up some earbuds and take music out and about minus your phone. It still doesn’t, unfortunately, let you sync offline playlists from third-party music streaming services. If you want the most complete experience, it’s clearly better to pair with an Android as opposed to an iPhone, as features like storing music don’t work. There’s no smart assistant, payment features or support for third-party apps as we already mentioned. You do get watch faces though, and it’s a nice bunch too. There’s a nice mix of analogue-style and data-packed digital options. There are also some more fun ones to opt for like its Graffiti and Comic, which do a better way of hiding away your fitness tracker stats. Fitness tracking – Accurate data, as well as useful recommendations and advice The Watch GT 2 already packed some pretty solid sports and fitness tracking features, and much of what you get there is here too. Huawei has added a few new things, that will no doubt make its way to GT 2 at some point too. There’s the same array of sensors including built-in GPS and a heart rate monitor. It’s now added a SpO2 sensor, which has started to appear on more smartwatches including ones from Garmin and Fitbit. In terms of the data it pushes out, it’s measuring blood oxygen levels, that if low, could indicate a medical issue. It’s also a useful metric to check on for anyone that spends a lot of time working out at high altitude. The data appeared to be in line with the same feature on a Garmin Fenix, though what we preferred was the detailed explanation as to why the data is useful. That blood oxygen data though doesn’t appear to be stored anywhere inside Huawei’s Health app though so it is only designed for on the spot measurements. Related Fitbit Charge 4 review When it comes to tracking itself, it’s the same process of pressing that action button in the top right-hand corner, selecting your activity and getting moving. You’re getting the same sports modes as the GT 2 covering the likes of running, cycling, swimming pool and open water. There’s also some outdoor-centric options like hiking, and there’s still also a triathlon mode. Huawei has decided to increase the number of activities that can be tracked, covering more niche sports and activities. So a scroll the new options shows it’s now got tracking options for the likes of spinning, boxing and ballet. There are also some new fun options like frisbee and kite flying, just don’t expect to get complex metrics about your throwing or flying technique. The performance of those features is a bit of a mixed bag. GPS signal picks up for outdoor tracking did take a bit of time to lock in initially, but did improve over time. Distance tracking was generally in line with a Garmin running watch but did on a few occasions overreport distance by about miles. That meant metrics for running like pace and cadence were skewed. On the whole, it was a good experience, though. For running indoors, some of the additional metrics like pace seemed quite off-putting us at a significantly slower pace. Once calibrated, it did become more reliable. If you want to factor heart rate monitoring into your training, then you do have that option too. There’s no support for pairing up an external heart rate monitor, which is a shame as the performance isn’t fantastic. We found that even outside of high-intensity interval training, it posted higher average and maximum heart rate readings against a Polar H9 heart rate monitor chest strap. If you care about HR for exercise, you might feel disappointed based on our experience. While heart rate monitoring can have its moments from an exercise tracking point of view, things are a lot better when it comes to continuous tracking. Compared to a Garmin watch and a Polar heart rate monitor chest strap, that resting heart rate data was a lot more reliable. Along with manually tracking workouts, Huawei does offer the option for the watch to automatically recognize when you’re doing certain activities, a bit like what Fitbit and Samsung do on their smartwatches. It currently works for indoor running, walking and the elliptical machine, though we struggled to get it to work. One thing to factor in with sports tracking is that data is made to live inside of Huawei’s own app. There is the option to save GPS files, so you can export them to other apps like Strava, for instance. That’s a much more fiddly way to display data in other apps when Garmin, Apple, Fitbit and others make it a whole lot easier to do. The Watch GT 2e does also pack fitness tracking features too. It’ll count steps, monitor sleep and continuously track heart rate. There’s also stress tracking, which has to be enabled from the companion app. It also requires doing a calibration test to get it set up. Step tracking tended to be within 200-300 steps of a Garmin fitness tracker, though reviewing that data in the Health app is a bit fiddly if you want to review trends over weeks and months. Huawei has gone big on sleep data offering a rich breakdown giving you a sleep score and insights based on your quality of sleep. From an accuracy point of view, there wasn’t anything wildly off with the data. What’s really nice here though is the effort to understand the data along with useful sleep recommendations and advice. Should you buy the Huawei Watch GT 2e? The Huawei Watch GT 2e isn’t an Apple Watch, and it simply doesn’t offer the same mix of smart and sports watch features as Apple and some of its rivals. It also doesn’t give iPhone users the full experience, so it’s definitely more an option for Android phone owners. It does offer big features that you’d usually pay more money for. Take the same £160, and you’re looking at the likes of the Fitbit Versa Lite edition or something like the Garmin Forerunner 45s. You’d have to pay £40 more for the Apple’s cheapest smartwatch, the Watch Series 3. If you care about serious sports features, the GT 2e will definitely have appeal, particularly for Android users. It promises more reliable tracking than Wear OS watches and that vastly superior battery life. It’s just a shame it doesn’t work with third-party fitness apps. Find the best smartwatch right The Huawei Watch GT 2e offers a whole lot of watch for your money. It’s still a predominantly fitness-focused device though. This is more of a sports watch than a smartwatch. Those sports features on the whole work well, and you do still have that great battery life that beats the likes of what Apple, Samsung and Wear OS watches can offer. Despite some gripes, the GT 2e is still a solid sporty fitness watch option to consider. Verdict The Huawei Watch GT is a competent running watch, but its smart functionality needs work. Pros Pretty design Great battery life Solid fitness tracking Cons Lacks smart functionality Doesn't work with some popular fitness apps Key Specifications Review Price £199 Huawei Lite OS GPS Month-long max battery What is the Huawei Watch GT? The Huawei Watch GT is the latest wearable from the Chinese giant. However, unlike it’s past smartwatches – which focused on dethroning the Apple Watch – the GT has an overt fitness focus. This, plus its £200 price tag, puts it in direct competition with dedicated fitness trackers from the likes of Garmin – which makes most of Trusted Reviews recommended sports watches, such as the equivalently priced Vivosport and Vivosmart HR+. As fitness trackers go, the Huawei Watch GT gets plenty right; it offers an attractive, comfortable to wear design and solid multi-sport tracking functionality. If you’re after a running watch that you’d be equally comfortable to wear at a fancy restaurant as you would on a climbing wall, then the Huawei Watch GT is a solid choice. However, teething problems with its custom-made Lite OS software limit it’s appeal as a smartwatch. The OS doesn’t allow you to fulfil basic tasks, such as pairing with your fitness app of choice, or controlling your music with the Huawei Watch GT. Related Best running watches Huawei Watch GT – Design As fitness trackers go, the Huawei Watch GT is a design marvel. This is mainly because, unlike many competing trackers at this price, it looks like a watch. Its circular x x stainless-steel body is available in black or metal finishes. You can customise the device further, with Huawei offering a selection of silicone strap for the Sport version I tested. These include Graphite Black tested, a Saddle Brown leather option, Glacier Grey and Fluorescent Green colour options. Around the side sit two physical buttons plus that, paired with the AMOLED touchscreen, act as the primary means to interact with the watch. Fit is outstanding over the past three weeks of testing, I’ve found the Huawei Watch to be one of a select few wearables I’d happily wear 24/7. The Watch GT also ticks most of the right boxes when it comes to hardware. The AMOLED screen is vibrant and has a sharp 454 x 454 326ppi display that ensures text and icons are uniformly readable. Maximum brightness levels are great, too, ensuring the screen remains legible even when you’re using it mid-run in bright sunlight. The custom Cortex-M4 chipset keeps things running smoothly, and I haven’t experienced any serious slow-downs or crashes using the Huawei Watch GT. The inclusion of integrated GPS, GLONASS and Galileo support means that, on paper at least, the Huawei Watch GT should offer fantastic location and distance-tracking services. Under the hood you’ll find all the sensors you’d expect from a dedicated fitness tracker. These include a optical heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light and barometer sensors. The 5 ATM water-resistance rating puts it on a par with most fitness trackers and means you can wear the device to depths of up to 50 metres, which will be welcome news for swimmers. The only slight downside is that the watch doesn’t come with any local storage. This means you won’t be able to store maps or music locally – although at this price you’ll struggle to find a tracker that offers such an option. Related Best fitness tracker Huawei Watch GT – Tracking and software The software is a custom build by Huawei that feels more like Garmin’s OS than a full-fat operating system such as Apple’s watchOS or Google’s Wear OS. At first glance, the OS works fine. To get it working you simply install the Huawei Health and services app and go through a quick pairing process. The menu that appears is pretty simple to follow. The main screen displays a simple watch interface – although there are a number of preinstalled custom UIs available that you may prefer, displaying more granular data for heart rate and step count, for example. A press of the top physical button brings up a list of all the installed apps and functions. Pressing the bottom button once opens the fitness tracking menu, from which you can choose a variety of workouts ranging from running through to swimming and climbing. Elsewhere, the controls are touch-based. Dragging down on the screen opens a Settings shortcut menu. Scroll up to check incoming notifications; left and right will take you through menus displaying your step count, the weather and your heart rate, for example. The interface is intuitive enough, feeling like an early version of Samsung’s Tizen OS. However, it quickly runs into problems if looking to engage smart functionality. For starters, there’s no music controller. Neither does the OS have any form of app library. As such, if you want some music to accompany your run, you’ll have to bring your handset along, using your headphones’ controller for management. Which is all a bit of a faff. In addition, the software doesn’t work with many popular third-party apps, such as Strava. The only items aside of Huawei Health that I could pair the Huawei Watch GT with were UP by Jawbone, Google Fit and MyFitnessPal. The limitations prove annoying, more so because the Watch GT is actually pretty good at fitness tracking. The GPS is snappy, never taking more than a minute or two to connect. Distance tracking data also proved accurate, with measurements never straying too far from those of the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus that I tested it against. The same was true of my heart rate data, which remained uniform and didn’t throw up any atypical results during testing. The app also offers a few useful metrics for overall progress. These include VO2 max estimates and training effect. As ever, the VO2 max estimates are only good as a frame of reference. For non-fitness fanatics, it’s a measurement of the level of oxygen your blood can store. The higher the number, the better. But to get an accurate VO2 reading, you need to go through a fairly unpleasant process in which you to run until you literally can go no further, all the while being hooked up to some lab equipment. Related What is VO2 Max? The VO2 figures you get from a wrist-based wearable won’t be anywhere near as accurate. However, if uniform they’re useful as a rough guide to your fitness, which is the case with the Huawei Watch GT. Training effect uses your heart rate readings, plus some other biometric data, to estimate how productiveness of your workout. The app and watch display the figure during and after the session using a simple to understand colour chart that’s broken down into different zones. For example, blue indicates you were only warming up, while red shows you were really pushing yourself over the limit. Neither feature is anything new – you’ll find them on most rival trackers – but they work well enough on the GT and will be useful for semi-serious athletes looking to track their overall progress. Related Best smartwatch Huawei Watch GT – Battery life Huawei has made some pretty bold claims about the Huawei Watch GT’s battery. Specifically, the company quotes it as offering “14 days’ typical use”. The quoted life is well ahead of smartwatches, which generally struggle to make it more than a couple of days following a single charge. With regular use I found the Watch GT generally lasted just shy of two weeks. Regular use entailed constant heart rate monitoring, notifications on, and three 5km runs per week with the GPS engaged. With the heart rate monitoring turned off and exercising indoors with the GPS off, too, I was easily able to push this to just over a fortnight of use. Why buy the Huawei Watch GT? If you want a decent-looking fitness tracker that you can wear outside the gym, too, then you could do a lot worse than the Huawei Watch GT. This is one of the more attractive trackers on the market for £200, and comes with all the sensors and hardware most semi-serious athletes will need to monitor performance. However, its software means the Huawei Watch GT falls short of expectations as a smartwatch. The Lite OS doesn’t support many popular third-party apps and the absence of common features – such as a music player/control – makes it feel fairly basic. As a result, those in the market for a smartwatch would do well to look elsewhere, considering the Apple Watch or Ticwatch Pro. Verdict The Huawei Watch GT is a competent fitness tracker but sub-par smartwatch. Trusted Score TheHuawei Watch GT shows what Huawei can do when it ditches Google's Wear OS and comes up with its own smartwatch operating system. TechRadar Verdict Huawei has dropped the Wear OS software it normally runs on its smartwatches, instead switching to its own OS – and that’s mostly to the detriment of the Watch GT. It's now a lot easier to find, but in our experience we’ve often found retailers don’t specifically refer to them by their Sport and Classic names. The way to tell which version you're looking at is the black body edition is the Sport variant, while the silver body is the released in the UK in November 2018, the watch has an RRP of £199 for the Sport variant but we've often seen the price as low as £140. The Classic is meant to cost around £220, but again we've seen it on sale for around £40 less at £ the US, the watch originally cost $ for the Sport edition, but we've seen the prices drop to £160. The Classic version is on sale in the US for $ a bit of a wait, Huawei also introduced the watch in Australia where its RRP was set at AU$349 but we've seen the price drop down to AU$249 at certain sales and display This is a thin and light smartwatch with a full-color display, and we found it comfortable to wear throughout our time using it; we also had compliments on how the watch looked on our design is similar to that of the Huawei Watch 2, although it is slimmer. It's thick, and that helps it to sit on your wrist comfortably, without weighing it down like some smartwatches a AMOLED display, which we found to be bright and clear. All of your stats appear clearly on the display, and it’s easy to interact with the touchscreen. That clarity is likely down to the resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, which is higher than we’ve seen on a lot of other is one of the best screens we’ve seen on a smartwatch, which is why it’s a bit of a shame there’s no Wear OS software on the watch to provide apps other than Huawei's default selection. But let’s keeping focusing on the design of the watch for now…There are two buttons on the right-hand side of the watch that enable you to navigate around its interface when you’re not using the touchscreen top button works to wake the watch and then take you back to the main menu, while the lower one is designed for you to set up your own shortcuts. This enables you to easily boot up your favorite apps without having to head into the main menu, which is useful if you’re often running with the watch. If you own a Huawei Watch 2 you’ll recognize a lot of the design elements here. The GT is made of a combination of ceramic and metal that looks premium on the wrist. The bezel has numbers around is to make it look a touch closer to a traditional watch, and that ceramic gives it a classier feel than some other else around the outside of the watch is metal, and we really like the look of the one we’ve been using for this got the choice of a silver watch body with a brown leather strap which has silicone on the inside to make it comfortable while you're exercising, or a black body with a black silicone strap. We preferred the silver and brown option, but both look good on the Credit TechRadar Current page Introduction, price and design Next Page Specs, features and battery life James is Managing Editor for Android Police. Huawei's $ Watch GT looks and sounds like a smartwatch, but it's really a fitness tracker in disguise. Running Huawei's barebones LiteOS operating system, there's no support for third-party apps. Instead you get activity and sleep tracking, continuous heart rate monitoring, and GPS. It's well suited for outdoor exercise, thanks to its scratch-resistant case and sport modes like trail runs and climbs. It's a solid choice if you want the functionality of a fitness tracker in the style of a smartwatch, as long as you aren't expecting too much in the latter department. Design and Display The Huawei Watch GT is surprisingly rugged given its sleek design. Its stainless steel case and ceramic bezel are wrapped in a carbon coating, making it resistant to scratches even in extreme environments. With a 5 ATM waterproof rating, you can wear it in the shower and in the pool. It comes in two color combinations—black stainless steel with a black silicone wrist strap, pictured here, or silver stainless steel case with a brown leather strap $ You Can Trust Our Reviews Similar Products I find the Watch GT comfortable despite its large size. Like Mobvoi's TicWatch E2, the Watch GT is clearly designed for men. The 46mm case looks great if you have a larger wrist, but it takes up a lot of forearm real estate for those with smaller wrists like mine. But at inches thick, its slimness helps to offset the size somewhat. Regardless, there's no denying that it's an attractive smartwatch that looks more expensive than it actually costs. It's easy to pair with casual outfits and is a great addition to evening wear, with plenty of watch faces to match your desired setting. On the right side of the case are two crowns for navigation—the top triggers the menu and acts as the power button, while the bottom brings you to workout mode. Neither crown rotates, so you have to manually use the touch screen to scroll through menu options and notifications. The AMOLED display is responsive and smooth. With 454 by 454 pixels, all content looks very vibrant and sharp. Features and Battery Life The Watch GT is powered by an ARM Cortex-M4 processor and features an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a heart rate sensor, a magnetometer, an ambient light sensor, a barometer, and GPS. There's no NFC or Wi-Fi. As mentioned earlier, the watch runs Huawei's LiteOS, which is compatible with Android and iOS devices. It allows you to view text messages, app alerts, and reject calls from your phone. The OS runs smoothly for the most part and apps load quickly. There's only a slight lag when scrolling through the menu, but it doesn't ruin the experience. While the operating system is easy to use, it looks outdated and there's really not much you can do with it as far as smartwatch functionality is concerned. Navigating the watch feels similar to Google's Wear OS—swipe down for shortcut tiles for Do Not Disturb mode, Find Phone, Lock, Show Time which turns the screen on for five minutes, and Settings. Swipe up for notifications, and scroll up to view all of them. Swipe to the left or right to access the heart rate monitor, weather app, and activity stats without having to go into the menu. As far as gestures go, you can flick your wrist to turn the display on and place your wrist down by your side to turn it off. Unfortunately, with no ability to download third-party apps, you're limited to Huawei's basic apps like the barometer, compass, flashlight, stopwatch, weather, and a few others. You can, however, link your watch to MyFitnessPal and Apple's HealthKit. Unlike the Fitbit Versa, you're limited when it comes to music. There's no onboard music storage and no ability to download Pandora, Spotify, or other streaming apps. And even when using your phone for music, the watch doesn't offer playback controls. Thanks to the spare operating system, the 420mAh battery on the Watch GT can last longer than most smartwatches and fitness trackers on the market. Huawei says you can get up to two weeks of use; in testing I was able to get a little over a week, which is still better than most of the competition. With continuous heart rate monitoring, app notifications turned on, sleep tracking every night, the display set to maximum brightness, and two separate, long workouts, I was down to ten percent battery by the eighth day of wearing it. Fitness Features and Accuracy As for exercise, the Watch GT offers ten sport modes to choose from outdoor run, indoor run, outdoor walk, climb, trail run, outdoor cycle, indoor cycle, pool swim, and open water. Any activity that isn't listed can be tracked under "other." You can also choose from a variety of running courses, with guidance on the display as you run. While working out, the display shows metrics like heart rate, pace, distance, time elapsed, steps, calories, and cadence. Afterward, all of your activity syncs to the Huawei Health app. In addition to the metrics mentioned above, both the watch and app break down your performance into categories like aerobic and anaerobic training effects, along with VO2Max and recovery time. See How We Test Fitness Trackers In terms of accuracy, the Huawei Watch GT isn't perfect, but it's consistent. For step count, I measured the watch against a 3DTriSport pedometer. During a one-mile walk on the treadmill, the Watch GT logged 1,987 steps in comparison with 2,338 steps on the pedometer. During a one-mile run on the treadmill, the watch logged 2,299 steps while the pedometer logged 2,453. Across all my workouts, I found the Watch GT was off by an average of about 200 to 300 steps each time. It fared better during an outdoor run, logging 2,108 steps to the pedometer's 2,145. To measure how accurately the Watch GT tracks distance, I compared it with a Stryd footpod. During a one-mile walk on the treadmill, the watch logged miles while the footpod logged Results were better after a one-mile run on the treadmill, where the watch logged miles and the Stryd logged exactly one mile. As with step count, the watch tracks distance far better outdoors, thanks to its GPS radio. After a one-mile run outside, the Watch GT recorded miles while the Stryd recorded miles. The heart rate monitor is fairly accurate. I used a Polar H10 chest strap to compare results, and during a one-mile walk, the Watch GT recorded 132bpm to the Polar's 135bpm. After a one-mile run, the watch recorded 160bpm to the Polar's 164bpm. Results were a little further off during my one-mile run outside, in which the Watch GT logged 123bpm to the H10's 131bpm. The Watch GT also shows you your heart rate zones during workouts. Depending on your beats per minute, the meter at the top of the display will fluctuate to show you whether you're in warm up, fat-burning, aerobic, anaerobic, or extreme mode. If you wear the Watch GT to bed, you can also track your sleep quality. On the watch you can see how many hours and minutes you slept for. After syncing it to the app, you'll see the percentage in which you were in deep, light, and REM sleep, and information on your deep sleep continuity and breathing quality. Based on these metrics, you'll receive a score for your sleep quality, along with tips on how to improve on it. When it comes to sleep tracking accuracy, however, the Watch GT is finicky. It logged that I was in light sleep when I was awake and scrolling through my phone in bed. Once I did get settled in, it identified the actual time I fell asleep, but didn't record that I woke up in the middle of the night. To compare results, I also wore the Fitbit Inspire HR, which was only off from the Watch GT by about a minute in terms of sleep and wake times. But the Watch GT logged that I was asleep for six hours adding in the extra hour it thought I was sleeping when I was on my phone, while the Inspire HR was more accurate, logging five hours. Conclusions The Huawei Watch GT is a smartwatch in name only. It tracks fitness metrics like heart rate, activity, and sleep, and also provides detailed insight on the physical state of your body, making it a solid choice if you're looking for the features of a fitness tracker in the body of a smartwatch. But for the same price, we prefer the Fitbit Versa, which provides more precise fitness tracking than the Watch GT as well as a wide selection of third-party apps, making it our Editors' Choice. Those with smaller wrists, meanwhile, might want to check out the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active. Its lightweight and slim frame is practical to wear on a daily basis, while tracking activity, heart rate, sleep, and stress levels. Pros Sleek design. Excellent battery life. Solid fitness tracking. Cons No third-party apps. Big for small wrists. Lacks NFC and Wi-Fi. The Bottom Line Huawei's Watch GT is a decent fitness tracker disguised as a smartwatch. While its size isn't suitable for all wrists, its GPS, durability, and long battery life make it a good companion for outdoor workouts. Like What You're Reading?
